Hits to the guard are cancelled. These will not be signalled (no hit light or buzzer will sound). A short traditional yellow light will illuminate (similar to wired systems) to inform you that the hit was cancelled. The guard hit cancellation circuit will never confuse a sweaty jacket, a sweaty glove, a sweaty mask, even sweaty skin for the guard. There will be no mysterious cancelled hits that plague most wireless systems. The sensor exploits the magnetic properties (instead of conductive properites) of metals to determine if the guard was hit. When testing the guard hit cancellation, try to hit the guard with a bit of speed, as if it was a truly hit during a bout. A slow mild hit may still be signaled (however this is unlikely in an actual bout). Some grazing hits to the guard may still be signaled.
It is ok to use a mask with chipped paint or even a mask with no paint at all (saber masks for example).
Strong hits to the floor are cancelled. These will not be signalled (no hit light or buzzer will sound). A short traditional yellow light will illuminate (similar to wired systems) to inform you that the hit was cancelled. You do NOT NEED A CONDUCTIVE PISTE for the function to work. Weak hits to the floor are still signaled. Generally most missed foot hits that hit the floor/piste are quite strong, especially when fencers are infighting and doing remises. The floor cancellation function is helpful in these situations to minimize unnecessary stoppage of the bout.
The floor cancellation works best on concrete floors, tiles, hard wood floors and of course will still work on metal (Aluminum) pistes. If you wish to roll out a rubber piste, please use the thinnest one possible. Rubber matting will degrade performance.
The floor hit cancellation can sometimes confuse a strong flick hits (especially to the harder curved areas of the masks) as a floor hit. Straight hits to the mask will usually still be signaled. We believe this is a small trade off for less disruption occuring from floor hits as flick hits on the mask are kind of rare. You can always deactivate the floor hit cancellation function if needed.
Plug the units to your epees and start fencing! Units will communicate directly with each other. No need to pair and unpair to a central unit or smartphone. No need to set up a table at the center.
Each unit will communicate with any other unit. Just set them to the same channel.

The whole 5x4 cm front face lights up through a silicone light diffuser visible from any angle.

Spectators
The devices are plugged on your weapons, where you, the umpire and the spectators have their focused view. A quick blue light (with no buzzer) will illuminate on your unit if you get hit, just in case you don't notice your opponent's light.

The front face and electronics are encased in a 6mm block of solid collision absorbing silicone resin. A unique lamination process integrates the thin cover with the silicone to make one continuous solid object that will withstand direct epee hits through the years. (Unit on the right shows the silicone block without the top cover).
A short buzzer mode feature gives a short beep when the point is depressed (within FIE timing compliance). This allows you more effective training with the coach as it provides feedback when a valid hit is made. Useful for practicing throw hits. The FIE compliant lock out can be used to train actions while also practicing to avoid a double light.
The rear face has a thickness of less than .5 cm . This will not crowd the inner guard and touch your hand. The whole unit has a thickness of only 1.2 cm.
The front face is sticker friendly. You can affix transparent stickers of your club or country.
Weighs only 39 grams. Not much more than your typical connector
Onboard LiPo rechargeable battery lasts more than 4 hours of actual fencing. On off switch allows the battery to hold its charge for up to 6 months and prolong battery life. The unit will go on standby automatically if no hit is detected for 8 mins. Rechargeable batteries can be replaced by a competent armorer (simple soldering required). The 401030 LiPo battery is very common and can be bought in eBay or AliExpress at an economical price.
Point depression duration and Lock out timing follow current FIE specifications.
Unit can be serviced if there are rule changes.
Uses a simple and very reliable radio transceiver. Unlike Bluetooth and Wi-Fi there is less radio traffic on these frequencies. There is no complex data addressing and frequency hopping. No delay in hit detection or lock out signaling in areas with lots of smartphones like malls or exhibition areas. 25 channels allow up to 25 active pistes. Channels are pre-set. If you buy more than one set the other sets will be set on a different channel at the factory. The pairs will have a color code on the side to avoid confusion.
