Bohn FT1 Foil Tester
Bohn FT1
The Bohn FT1 is a comprehensive foil tester that checks the electrical characteristics of the foil. Including the quality of the point.
It checks if the foil is completely shorted or open
It checks if there are intermittent breaks in the foil wiring which cannot easily be detected by multimeters or simple LED type testers.
It checks the quality of the point wiring and contact. It can determine if the foil will raise a white light if beaten, or if it will do so in the near future or if the point quality is very good.
Quickly test your foils before the bout!
Armorers: Test the newly wired weapon in the armory before you release the weapon for use. No need to wire to a scoring apparatus.
A powerful onboard microcontroller uses the same methods a real scoring apparatus will determine a hit

Contact bounce is replayed as flickering lights to give an actual representation of the contact intermittency
Tester analyzes and issues a green (good), yellow (pass) or red (fail) light. Green followed by a red, green, blue light sequence means the foil passed exceptionally
User Instructions
To start the test, “arm” the tester by pressing the point once. The tester will light up with a bright blue light.
If the tester won’t arm, this means the foil is completely electrically shorted and needs maintenance.
If the tester won’t wake from sleep, or wont arm and goes to sleep immediately, the foil is completely open and needs maintenance.
You can force wake the tester by shorting the two prongs on the guard of the foil.
Step 1: While the unit is armed, without touching the point, BEND the foil back and forth as in normal use. The unit must stay armed. If the blue light changes, this indicates an intermittent faulty connection.
Step 2: While the unit is armed, use another foil and beat the foil strongly. The blue light will change to a white light. The white light may flicker. The flickering indicates the point is intermittently disconnecting. Some flickering is tolerable.
Red - fail. Most likely the foil will raise a white light when beaten during actual use.
Yellow - passed but the point may need some maintenance in the near future.
Green - good
Green then followed with a red green blue sequence - passed with flying colours. (No point bounce at all).
Battery
Standby lights are normally blue. If the battery is low it will display a cyan (purple) colored light. Tester can still be used but will need charging as soon as possible.
Charging is done through a USB C port. (Cable not included)
On full charge, the battery will last up to 4 months on sleep mode.
Batteries will last for about 6 hours while operating. Unit will go to sleep mode if no activity is detected for about 3 minutes or if unit is unplugged.
